Wellbeing Art Lessons
Wellbeing art lesson plans! In this unit the art lessons are based on increasing your students wellbeing and knowledge of self. We look at emotions and positive thoughts while practising mindfulness by focusing on the present.
Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2
Wellbeing art lessons for Kinder to year 2 will focus on emotions and mindfulness. We will use corks to print a variety of colours, each representing and naming an emotion. The little characters children create will make this a fun art lesson. We will have students drawing and using watercolours to paint oval shapes. We’ll then fill them with patterns in a zentangle mindfulness artwork.
We will trace our hands and use patterns to fill in the shapes for a personalised art project and create a happy, joyful or loved collage artwork with lots of colour. These lesson plans draw on elements of colour, repetition, pattern and use harmony and balance in the creation process. We will use drawing, painting, collage and printing techniques to create the works.
Grade 3 and 4
Wellbeing art lessons in the grade 3-4 year category will have students drawing a vibrant spiral with rainbow colours. We will use bingo dabbers to paint the spiral and use spray bottles and foil to print the spiral onto paper. Patterns will be added for a mindfulness exercise with white gel pens and coloured markers to complete the work.
Students will enjoy creating their own affirmation poster with a range of inspirational quotes to choose from. We’ll use positive words and phrases to create a happy vibe in the classroom and collage to make the colourful background components to make this delightful artwork. Neurographic drawing is a for students to focus on an issue or problem they wish to resolve, the creation of this mindful artwork is thought to assist in coming to a solution. We’ll use watercolour and black markers to create a loopy artwork with a limited chosen colour scheme.
Students will enhance their knowledge of line and pattern using markers and repetitive patterns to enhance their work. A colour palette can be chosen and students can choose their own individual theme to create their poster.
Grade 5 and 6
In the wellbeing grade 5-6 category we will have students experimenting with an inspired collage artwork, focusing on words to create a positive statement such as choose kindness. These will make a great display and lift the mood in the classroom and the school!
