Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2
Create artworks inspired by the seasons! In Summer and Winter there is wonderful ispiration to create. There is a gorgeous clay sun to make and some lovely summer butterflies using paint and beads to fold, print and thread. Great for fine motor skills. Paint a lovely rainy day artwork straight from a cold winter’s day. The kids will love creating raindrops in cool colours and adding drawing details with pencil to make them look 3D. Use collage and painting to create this atmospheric artwork on A3 paper.
In these lesson plans, children will learn how to work with clay and make a relief plaque of a sun. Use a template to cut around and create the clay sun shape then model the fetures and smooth the edges. Learn about symmetry with the painted butterfly art project and create a wonderful display of the works. Develop threading skills with the beaded component and antennae. Use watercolour or tempera block paints to make a rainday artwork on A3 paper and collage drawing details to complete the artwork. Get creative and add children with umbrellas dancing in the rain!
Grade 3 and 4
Celebrate Summer and Winter! Be inspired by contemporary Australian artist Bruce Earles and create a colourful day at the beach. Add vibrant coloured papers for swimmers and beach umbrellas, add drawing details for interest and variety to the scene with oil pastel. Kids can add their own ideas to this artwork, a dog running, flying a kite, laying on a beach towel or playing on a floatation ring in the water to make it an individualised artwork.
Learn about atmospheric landscapes with this scene of winter deer. Place a horizon line and add a variety of blues to show the illusion of depth on the page. Show reindeer in a snowy landscape, in silhouette and use a variety of blues to add depth. Learn about tints and shades to create the colour scheme and add collaged reindeer and trees in varying sizes to complete the work. Kids will learn about depth, colour, layering and scale to create this work on A3 paper.
Grade 5 and 6
Have fun printmaking a radial symmetry artwork inspired by Aztecs. Design a sun mandala using the provided reference images and create two print plates. Use gold paint on black paper for stunning results! Celebrate winter with a sweet artwork entitled, ‘Catching Snowflakes’. You could also use this lesson plan for a Christmas themed artwork by using a red and green colour scheme. Students will learn about radial symmetry, develop drawing, design and print making skills. Learn dry brush painting techniques and create an artwork from a different viewpoint, looking up.
