Pets
Children love their pets and we have a whole unit that explores this special connection. Creatures of all shapes and sizes, cuddly, scaled and slimy delight children and also offer a special kind of companionship.
Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
Discover the love children have for their pets with some fun art projects to explore! We have art works to create with based on mice, cats, and goldfish. Paint, collage and draw to make a clever tabby cat on paper. Add whiskers and a sweet button nose to complete this sweet pet portrait. We will practice tearing paper to make some coloured mice and add drawing details. There is a comic goldfish in a bowl to paint and add fun eye stickers to as well.
Students will use a variety of processes and will draw on the elements of colour and shape, form, and contrast in the creation of these works. We will use materials including, acrylic paint, oil pastel, paint sticks and permanent marker to make these artworks.
Grade 3 and Grade 4
Create a fun fishbowl inspired by author and Illustrator, Lucy Cousins and her book, ‘Hooray for Fish’. Make up some fun and whacky fish to paint with watercolour and then arrange them in a fishbowl.
Itsuko Suzuki is a contemporary Japanese artist who creates gorgeous pet portraits with drawing and watercolour details. Create a favourite pet in this sweet style to capture your heart.
We will use the elements of colour, form, shape, and line. These lessons will expand on your student’s knowledge of contemporary art styles, allowing them to experiment with colour and texture to create their own art.
Grade 5 and Grade 6
In the 5-6 grade category, students will make a pet portrait by painting with acrylics. This work is inspired by contemporary US artist, Dean Russo. We’ll use bright colours and patterns with drawing elements to create a stunning portrait of ‘mans’ best friend’. Using fibre and textiles we will sew a sweet little mouse in a tin. Create the bed and blanket and even a cute little teddy for the mouse to cosy up to. Kids will learn some basic sewing skills, a fun project to create for a younger school buddy or to keep themselves.
