Create a super easy clay shoe print bowl. A great idea if you have never tried clay with your younger classes. Look at the textures created by printing the tread from sneakers or shoes. Allow the clay to dry and colour it with vibrant oil pastel colours to make them stand out before dipping in ink to create high contrast. Two easy half hour lessons are required to make this project.
We’ll look a the vibrant works of contemporary artist, Sandra Silberzweig and create a colourful self portrait in her style. Kids can match the features to their own, draw with permanent marker and colour with oil pastel. We will learn about warm and cool colours and use edicol dye to add and mix vibrant background colours.
Grade 3 and 4
More About ME art lessons for grades 3 and 4 will focus on portraits. The self portrait in coloured pencil lesson plan has a proportions of the face printout for students included to make drawing the face easier. We’ll look at the stunning works of contemporary artist Romero Britto and draw a cartoon self portrait in his style. Use oil pastels to colour in the sections and add a background with edicol dye to complete the artwork.
Students will enjoy these drawing projects and you can use a photo or small mirror for students to study their own features. Pencil drawing techniques of blending and building up layers of colour are covered in the lesson plan.
Students will enhance their knowledge of the face and proportions. We’ll use outline, pattern and contrast in the Romero Britto portrait using markers and repetitive patterns to enhance the work. A colour palette can be chosen and students can choose their own individual theme to create their portrait.
