Me and Environment Curriculum (M+E)

The M+E Curriculum – Me and Environment
The Creative Kids Art Lessons M+E Curriculum is a fun way for teachers to get to know their students and discover the plants, animals, and landscapes that make up our lived envrionment. There are portraits to create inspired by famous artists and lesson plans that focus on the foods we eat and mental health designed to enhance the health and wellbeing of your students. The M+E curriculum is a full year art curriculum of lesson plans meeting all the art elements that are specified, by year group for Kindergarten to Year 6.
Students are introduced to a range of famous artists and styles, including Hundertwasser, Sandra Silberzweig, Georgia O’Keefe and Pablo Picasso. There are realistic portaits to draw and surrealist portraits to paint in this unit that explores your students’ interests and identity.

In these complete art curriculum lesson plans, students experiment with an amazing variety of media and techniques from drawing and collage to clay printmaking and mixed media artworks. The M+E curriculum provides an excellent balance of short, simple projects that can be achieved in a one-hour lesson, to more in-depth projects to complete over several weeks. The curriculum has been organised to suit elementary or primary year levels, including separate curriculum details for Kindergarten to Year 2, Years 3-4 and Years 5-6. Each unit has at least 8 hours of art for K-2, 3-4 and 5-6 students.
Below is a detailed view of one of the included lesson plans – the Zany Zebra from the African animals unit. It is a fun take, adding colour to the black and white your students will enjoy. There’s a step-by-step lesson plan with images of each process as well as written instructions. There are also artist information sheets when the artwork is inspired by an artist. There are templates to use with younger students as well as reference images when required. There are curriculum details and assessment rubrics supplied within each lesson plan provided.
The M+E art curriculum will help teachers plan for a specific year or age group or the full range from Kinder to year 6. Both teachers and students will have fun with this curriculum, exploring the world around them through the visual arts! Art materials lists to use for your yearly budget planning are provided for each year group and for teaching the full K-6 curriculum.

How does it work?
The Me and Environment curriculum is provided in an easy-to-edit spreadsheet for each year grouping, K-2, 3-4 and 5-6. You can easily add in any specific art projects you would like to and even your school’s term dates. It is designed with four terms of 10 weeks each.
Within the curriculum spreadsheet, the specific knowledge, skills, and techniques being taught have been identified for easy assessment.
The M+E curriculum is provided with a yearly membership so you have full access to all the lesson plans and can get organised for the year ahead straight away. There is no additional cost with a membership.
Classroom Literature – Me and Environment Booklist
We know it’s fun to include a story related to the art project you are doing in class. It provides insight into animal or aspect you are focsuing on, providing valuable background information for your students. The M+E curriculum includes a list of 32 children’s books for a literature tie with your art lesson.
