Create amazing characters from Fairytales and Fables with these inspiring drawing, painting, collage and clay projects. There are fairies, princesses and princes, dragons and unicorns to draw, three bears to paint and a wonderful clay dragon to sculpt from clay. 5-6 students can discover Chibis with 6 different characters to draw.
Fairytales and Fables for Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
Fairytales and Fables are a fun topic for Kinder to year 2 classes to explore. Make a wonderful three bears artwork to go with the ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’ Story. Make a Papa, Mumma and baby bear artwork using painting, drawing and collage techniques. There is magical fairytale castle to make to tie in with the stories of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or Snow White. Lots of cutting and pasting to develop fine motor skills in this one. Create a sweet fairy to tie in with the fairy tales and stories of Peter Pan, Thumbelina, Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty.
Children will learn about colour and paint application as well as how to create patterns and textures on painted paper to make wonderful artworks.
Fairytales and Fables for Grades 3 and 4
Fables for grades 3 and 4. Unicorns are mythical creatures, and you can create this artwork, inspired by the early works, of Australian Artist, Emma Gale. For literary references, Aesop’s Fables has a story about a Lion and a Unicorn or there is the kids’ book ‘Thelma the Unicorn’ for younger readers. You may also know of the Disney movie, ‘The Last Unicorn’ for 8yrs+. Our unicorn is a colourful artwork using drawing techniques with paint sticks and permanent marker.
Create a prince or princess artwork with a majestic A3 painting on paper. Create patterns and you can tie the work in with a cultural theme. Literary references include thee story of the ‘Little Prince’, or the Fairytale of Cinderella. Have fun with the Rapunzel printmaking and collage artwork. Kids will learn some plaiting or twirling techniques to create her cascading hair with wool.
Fairytales and Fables for Grades 5 and 6
Fables for grade 5 and 6. St George and the Dragon is just one of the numerous dragon stories and fables you could reference with the clay dragon artwork. Students love tales about dragons and there are a lot of popular series available! This is a step by step guide to make a dragon from air dry clay, painted with acrylics. If you have a kiln, you can also make the dragon, to glaze and fire.
Chibis are a kid friendly version of Japanese anime or manga. They have big heads and small bodies. There is a drawing guide to create an elf with additional templates to draw a dragon, fairy, merman, unicorn and wizard. Each one takes around an hour to draw. When kids gain confidence with this style of anime drawing, they can create their own Chibi characters as well. We use alcohol ink markers and marker paper for this project.
