Ecuador and Peru
Visit Ecuador and Peru and explore the wonderful colours of the region. Look at the amazing wildlife of the Galapagos Islands and learn about Alpaccas and Llamas in Peru.
In the K – 2 category, students explore paper weaving based on the stunning Peruvian textile colours of the region. Students will create a paper loom and use pattern to create a unique and colourful artwork. We have a sweet sloth drawing to do, he’s just hanging around! We’ll use oil pastel on paper in this guided drawing project. We’ll paint the Blue Footed Booby from the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador and find out some fun facts about this amazing bird. The Party Alpaca project is sure to be a favourite! This mixed media artwork is lots of fun with drawing, painting, collage and more. Students will explore the elements of colour, shape, composition, and balance to create their own artworks. The lessons demonstrate the creation and effect of different textures using acrylic paint, fibres and stamping techniques.
In the year 3 and 4 category, students will look at works by Artist Gareth Lucas and create a stunning toucan an essential part of any Amazon rainforest adventure! We have a weaving project to create a fun llama artwork with its own colourful hand woven blanket. We’ll use painting and drawing techniques to complete the fun llama project. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to create a small loom and to learn to weave. They will consider colour in the creation of harmony and balance in their works. This unit will focus primarily on composition, colour choices, pattern, weaving and techniques to create stylized representations of objects.
In the year 5 and 6 category, students will complete both a llama portrait and drawing of the Galapagos Tortoise, drawing inspiration from these wonderful creatures. In the llama portrait, students will learn about the use of paint and drawing techniques, focusing on line, colour and texture to create an expressive composition. In the tortoise drawing project, we will use brown paper and coloured pencils to create a life like drawing, a visual representation of the tortoise while using rendering techniques to create texture and pattern. Observation skills will be in demand to create a wonderful artwork. Students will learn about pencil application techniques, colour choices and directional marks.
