Learn all about colour with monsters to create, sneakers to design and colour mixing artworks to create. Learn about the art of abstract trailblazer Sonia Delauney and contemporary artist, Janet Skates whose works are both based on colour and contrast.
Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2
Have fun making a colour mix monster! Kinder to year two will love the unexpected, and random colour mixing that happens when creating their paint blob. Cut and add details to make a fun loving friendly monster. Create the sweet rainbow artwork using collage, paint sticks and paint pens. Display the work on a vibrant background and brighten up your classroom whilst your students learn about colour.
Have fun mixing colours with modelling medium to create the primary and secondary colours. Press them together to make a stunning rainbow caterpillar whilst learning colour theory. Students will use a variety of processes and will learn about the element of colour in the creation of these works. We will use materials including, acrylic paint, paint sticks, paint pens modelling medium and craft supplies to make these artworks.
Grade 3 and Grade 4
Explore colour with this colour fun artwork. Begin with colour mixing and create a range of colours. Add analogous colours with oil pastels to create borders on each paint swatch. We’ll make stamps with simple shapes to print on top and learn about contrast and colour with black and white printing.
Have fun mixing colours with the colour mixing worksheets while learning about tints and shades. Find out how to mix popular colours such as aqua, the world’s favourite, as well as lilac and peach. Use your favourite colours to design a colourful sneaker. Add patterns and details with markers and paint pens. These lessons will expand on your student’s knowledge of colour, analogous colours, creatnig contrast with colour and tints and how to mix tints and shades.
Grade 5 and Grade 6
In the 5-6 grade category, students will learn about the works of two artists, Sonia Delauney and Janet Skates. Use a range of warm and cool colours to create an artwork inspired by famous abstract and Pop Art artist Sonia Delauney. Learn about colour mixing by layering transparent colours and see how they blend, what works and what doesn’t.
Contemporary artist Janet Skates loves vibrant colours and contrast, she utilises these in her colourful paintings. Begin with warm or cool colours and add contrast with complementary colours. To create the artwork students will focus on colour mixing and creating contrast. Add details with paint pens to complete your stunning work inspired by Janet Skates.
